For the last week or so, I have noticed the reception quality for my scanner is not as good as it should be. The scanner stays on nearly 24 hours in the same location, I use a BCD 396T with stock "duck" antenna to monitor Burlington County's TRS. Anybody else experiencing this or have any suggestions? Thanks!

What site or control channel are you using to listening? I was programming a 996XT for a freind last night and I could hear all the sites around here pretty good with the included antenna. Some choppy voice channels once in a while on Mt Laurel and other sites but I get the Westhampton site strong here which is the site nearest you. You shouldn't have any problems hearing the Westhampton site from Mt Holly even with a stock antenna.

I have a 396T also, the stock antenna is junk, its good for VHF and lousy everywhere else. The radio shack 800MHz antenna works much better on 500 MHz than the stock antenna and is great on 800 MHz. You will sacrifice some performance on VHF however.

Please forgive my ignorance, how do I pick which control site I want to listen to? Thanks for the help.

Woohoo!! I think I figured it out, I have 508.475 on there most of the time, and get 3-4 bars signal strength. Every once in a while, it says LNK with another freq up. Im assuming the TRS picked 8.475 for something else and the LNK is a temp fix.....am I right on that? Thanks again.

508.475 is the control channel for the Northwest zone, you're picking up the tower at Rt. 38 & Rt. 295. The Northcentral zone in Westampton uses 508.500 as the control channel. That's the site you should go to. I'm assumng you want to hear Mt Holly PD or Northcentral Police-3. LNK indicates data is being received on a voice channel.
