I am bothered by those data bursts at the beginning or end of transmissions. I realize the burst data are necessary and part of each transmission but they become annoying. Is there anyway of muting them?

Is your modulation set at auto, or...?

it sounds like he is hearing the MDC ID burst. There is no setting to automute them.

Hopefully they aren't encrypted, because the FCC doesn't allow scanners to even stop on anything encrypted.
No, the service I am listing to has no encryption capabilities. Although you could reason the digital data bursts are decoded and displayed on a flat screen monitor. These data bursts contain simple info, such as the radio ID. It tells dispatch what radio is transmitting on every transmission. (I imagine it has the capability to transmit GPS info in the data burst in the event the emergency button is pressed. But I suspect the system I’m listening to these data burst contain GPS location info on every transmission as I’ve heard dispatch state which unit was closest to where they were to be sent. I’m listening to an unencrypted service.

Are you referring to MDC-1200? Is this conventional analog you're talking about? If yes and yes, the answer is nope, sorry. Get a real radio that is capable of DOS muting if it bothers you that much. 🤷‍♂️

Yes, I am aware but I already know what is being broadcast. I’d just like to eliminate them and as I stated, I pretty much knew there was nothing I could do about it… that I was just making sure I hadn’t missed anything.
