Ok, so after dealing with a friend last night, and having the constable being an old friend that I had taught Swift Water Rescue too, I was able to figure out the numbering system for Calgary police (and a fair bit of my background in EMS and Dispatch helped too)

When a CPS member comes on shift they are are assigned to a section of their district, let's say Division 3, area 3-2. They will go and get the keys for their unit, if they are in 3-2 then the unit will be 1 (Radio Car) 3 (district) 2 (division) 5 (unit) for a call of 1325. On the back of the key for 1325 they have a code they enter into the CAD for the radio ID in the unit 4xxxx and they grab a handheld unit with a number stamped on the radio 75xxxx. They enter both of this into the computer dispatch system (CAD) and the number they voice on the radio is the physical unit on the top and side of the cars. (Some may change with the replacement of fleet)

I thought that the 5xxxx radios made sense because any starting with 513xx was always in District 3 and 5xxx1-5xx10 is ALWAYS one or two of the sergeants.

The good news even tho there is no rhyme or reason for the 4xxxx radios, they ARE the Radio cars painted with numbers for officer safety when HAWCS is over head (the 5xxxx did not do that except sergeants)

I'm going to have to spend some time with my scanner on the weekend getting the vehicle Radio ID's and changing the 5xxxx to Dxx Portable.

Great information confirmed by a scanner and a drinking buddy in CPS who opens the door and gives me a massive bear hug taunting me " go ahead, get out, it's assault of a peace officer" now to plan my revenge for that part of the call...

Anyways, I thought I would share that. The system is almost the same that AHSEMS uses, because they have random units, and random radios, but using the same Dispatch CAD system.

One thing I am looking to update is the radio ID's for the Calgary Fire trucks, I have a 3 year old list but I'm sure there have been!

Thanks for your help in advance!!
