i'm scanning caltrans from healdsburg/ santa rosa area and just set it up on the bcd396t as south and north.
i get id 624 on the north freq. in the database it shows in the south system as construction and not such id # on the north.
it sounds to me more as tow service.
can anyone shine more light on this?
thank you

I noticed that too a long time ago... it appears to be the CALTRANS Bay Bridge tow service. (Unit IDs 4-2-2xx, like "4-2-204".)

Yes, it is the Bay Bridge tow service. You'll also hear then doing security checks on areas around the bridge. Actually, this is the only traffic I've ever heard on the CalTrans trunk system so I'm not sure what's right in the database. I think some Caltrans traffic is actually on 800 conventional.

Kelty's got:

Ch. G4 - Mt Tamalpias - 859.7375 PL 136.5
Ch. B2 - Sonoma Mountain (for Petaluma) - 860.7375 PL 123.0
Ch. U1 - Point Reyes Hill (for Inverness) - 857.2625 PL 110.9

Here's where it gets interesting:

Ch. D - Mt. Barnabe (Serving San Geranimo Valley, western Marin county) - 856.7375 w/ No PL tone
Ch. D3 - Point Reyes - 856.7375 PL 131.8

That freq is part of the Dist. 4 North TRS on Big Rock Ridge. D3 I could maybe see because the PL tone would at least filter out recieving the TRS traffic, but with Mt Barnabe not using a PL, it makes for a weird situation. The info could be out of date, but I just heard a morse code ID on that freq that didn't sound like the TRS (came in clearer). (I know 856.7375 isnt listed as a TRS freq on the database but if you set up the system and watch the voice channels you'll see it pop up.)

Hey thanks for helping me get it straight. I listened to D for a while last night and heard some Mt. Barnabe traffic I think (that site is fairly close to my location) but with no PL tone... have you verified Mt. Barnabe uses tone 3 or could that be a different site close by?

D3 is definitely Barnabe.

The only conventional D repeaters in the Marin area are Barnabe (D3) and Bottle Rock Plant (D4 - Lake Co).

Point Arena is also on D but I haven't confirmed the tone. You might be able to hear it on the Marin coast.

You may be hearing the D repeater that is part of the San Leandro trunked system. Trunked repeaters do not transmit standard CTCSS or DCS. Most scanners listening to trunked repeaters behave as if they are listening to carrier squelch transmissions.

I had my Pro-96 in CTCSS PL search mode and wasn't getting anything, and I'm close enough to Mt. Barnabe that I'd get the tone if it was traffic from there. I must have been getting San Leandro's Dist. 4 south site. Thanks for the clarification.
