Both FDs discussing plans to 'bolster' each other's departments if necessary.
An article was published in the Philadelphia Inquirer describing the proceedings.
Of interest to scannists, is that each dept. works on different frequencies. Camden is dispatched by Camden County on 150 mhz, while Philly is on a Motorola 800 mhz trunking system.
From the article:
"
Following the meeting, the departments tested communicating with one another. Philadelphia's department is on a high-band frequency, while Camden is on a low-band frequency. However, following 9/11, Philadelphia acquired a device that allows communication between radios of different frequencies. "Interoperational readiness," Ayers called it.
Communication "from one truck in Philadelphia to a pumper in Camden" via radio, Harper said, was flawless."
It is interesting that the Philly Police and Fire systems are designed to be essentially contained in the city, and reception in nearby South Jersey can be spotty. Anyone have any input on such a device?
