Camp Shelby, Mississippi, is the largest state-owned and operated field training site in the United States.

Now, throughout the year, over 100,000 troops from all branches of the United States military train here. Numerous non-DOD and civilian agencies also conduct activities at Camp Shelby.

Yep, and it is now the premier training facility for advanced training in pre deployment to the middle east. So with the mobilization starting, should be some good monitoring, and the H'burg area business will be making some good money.

About 600 troops of the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment have arrived at Camp Shelby from Tennessee to begin mobilizing for deployment later this year to Iraq.

More troops will arrive in increments of about 300 every two days until all 4,000 soldiers are on post.

During some of the training events the frequencies 25.000 - 76.000 is an interesting area for scanning.

Also the Mil-Air band!

The training events will probably include some live fire or practice.

As many as 200 people will be hired at Camp Shelby by Virginia-based Goldbelt Eagle to play Iraqis in villages, at checkpoints and along roads near a forward operating base (FOB) where the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment will train before deploying to Iraq.

The jobs pay $12.05 per hour, and most will be full-time for up to three months.
