To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am asking if there is a quick way to wipe myXTS3000 code plug ?

The radio is loaded and it is difficult to start fresh with all the setting and channels in it.

I'm getting errors when I slowly reprogram it to my liking.

Any help is appreciated, Thank you.

Unless you have the original default blank codeplug, then the short answer is no, there is no quick way.

The fastest method... under each tree group (scan list, zone, personality, trunk system, ASTRO call list, etc...) create a new default entry for that group and delete all the others.

Start at the bottom and work up... off the top of my head... do scan lists first, followed by zone/channel assignments, trunking personalities, trunking systems, trunking call lists, conventional astro systems, conventional personalities, etc. etc. Then you'll have to go into each configurable option screen and set them as desired.

Nobody said it was easy...

What are the errors?

I should have said "invalid fields". I'm able to undo the changes when looking up in the tools for invalid fields, but it takes time.

Thought perhaps a sequence of button presses when turning on the portable would reset unit.

I'm working it out now. Thank you for you reply.

no buttons to reset.. and Lab will jack up all the tuning values so unless you plan on a full alignment on a service monitor its not worth the hassle

Yep. It can be pretty tedious, as you're finding out. Motorola CPS is not renowned for being fast and easy to work with.

You could always just write them down. [emoji849]

So you mean to tell me if you take a Radio read it with tuner, write the tuning values down. Put a new codeplug in and re-enter tuning values that’s ball park?

The CPS is working fine, just time consuming...

I'm working it out the long way for now.

Don't feel bad about the effort it takes. I have an XTL-2500 and an XTL-5000 where both have 50 zones installed in them. I do travel from the New Orleans area all the way up to New Hampshire. Depending on how many 2 meter repeaters are in the area I am traveling through, I try to break up the regions to different zones. Most of the zones are filled with like 15 actual RF channels in laymen terms and modes in Motorola terms.

Then you have the scan lists. If you add or remove a channel in the zone, it will cause a problem in the scan lists. So you will make a change to the RF information and then go to the scan list for that zone and correct the error you created.

Basically, those are the 2 places where you should be getting the errors from. Nothing else is going to change unless your doing something strange.

Assuming the radio was tuned properly to start with, your process works just fine, thank you. You're just setting the e-pots exactly where you found them.

I'm pretty sure that was a rhetorical question.
