Here's my set-up:
I use a playstation 3 connected to my LG tv (model# 42cs560) by way of the av cables on the playstation. There is no headphone jack on either the playstation or on the LG TV.
Any sounds from the playstation are coming through the television speakers

Because of external sounds from other neighbors (I live in an apartment), I'd like to use headphones while playing my playstation3 in order to hear it better without turning up the volume on the television. If I turn up the volume on the TV, then MY neighbors might start complaining.

Does anyone know of an inexpensive solution to using headphones or how to get headphones connected?
The LG TV has hdmi outputs and av cable outputs on the back of the set, (if that helps).
I do not have cable tv, or Dish or anything like that.

Thanks for any help

If you're really super cheap, you could line out from the PS into a computer line in and headphone out from the computer... $5.

$40 for an inexpensive bookshelf stereo with aux inputs and a headphone jack...

Amazon.com: GPX HM3817DTBLK Vertical Home Music System with CD Player (Black): Electronics

$300 for some sick wireless headphones...

Amazon.com: Sennheiser RS 180 Digital Wireless Headphone System: Electronics

"Inexpensive" is a relative term... Helps to know he budget.

The $40 item is affordable vs. the $300 item.
I'll look into your suggestions and thanks for the help.
I'll let you know how it turns out....

OK....here's what I came up with. Total of all parts was $20. Cheap enough for what I want.

1) PS3 RCA AV Cable (I had one of these already, but they are $4 on Amazon):

Amazon.com: Playstation PS3 AV Cable (Bulk Packaging): Video Games

2) Female RCA to Female 3.5MM Adapter ($3 on Amazon with shipping):

Amazon.com : Manhattan 6 inches Stereo Splitter-3.5mm Jack to 2-RCA Jacks Audio Adapter : Electronics Cable Binding Posts : Electronics

3) 3.5MM Headphone Extension Cord With Volume Control (w/Volume is key - $14 on Amazon):

Amazon.com : 3.5mm Stereo Extension Cord w/ Volume Control & Mono / Stereo Switch - 10' : 70-023 : Headphone Extension Volume : Electronics

4) Any 3.5MM headphones.

The PS3 RCA cable is hooked into the back of the PS3 with the red and white RCA cables going to the RCA/3.5MM adapter.

Then I plugged the headphone extension cable into the RCA/3.5 adapter and plugged my headphones into the extension cord. You need something with volume control in the headphones because this setup won't let you control the volume through the PS3 or your TV.

For video I'm just using my standard HDMI cable - so you have to change settings on the PS3 to make the audio go through the RCA cable. It's a simple set up from the PS3 menu, go to sound settings and then select the Audio Input / SCART / AV Multi Out for the output.

Sound came in clear through my headphones with HDMI video and I could fully control the volume through the extension cable and cost me $20.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I recently purchased a set of wireless headphones complete with the base transmitter for $7.00 at Office Depot, just plug the included cable into the AV out jack of either your PS or TV and listen on the headphones.
