When I hook my Pro-163 to my big antenna I can here a little and when I hook my handheld BC125 to it I can here tons and tons of stuff.. Is it the brand of scanner Im using or what. Any Ideas????????????? I cannot apply attenuation on my handheld bc 125.. Im switching all my scanners anyways from Pro-163 to Unidens BC15. Im just starting to think that the RS Pro-163 is a piece of JUNK!!!!!!!!!

Check if the attenuator is on. There will be a "A" in the top line of the display if it is. Just push the "ATT" button to turn it off. Make sure you are receiving a signal when pushing the ATT button. You can tune to one of the weather channels to experiment with the button to make sure it's working.

I have a pro-164, which is the handheld version of your scanner, and I've noticed that it has a very hot receiver, and is prone to overloading by very strong signals. Generally less is more with antennas on these GRE-built radios, since they overload so easily. Try turning on the global attenuator and see if that helps, sounds backwards but it could help.

As was noted, you're probably experiencing desense, most likely form a FM broadcast station (if the problem is constant, if's it's intermittent it's from something else).

You need to know what the source is so you can filter it out or at least attenuate it enough so it doesn't cause you problems.
