Hello everyone.

My dad has the ICOM IC-7100 and we can't find an option that we have used many times before with older transceivers (specially Yaesus). We need the radio to constantly transmit a steady signal (imagine whistling) with let's say 2% power output (2W).

We use this to find the null point of the coaxial cable along with a 50 ohms 10 watts resistor at the end.

The idea is to verify that the electrical speed advertised by the cable manufacturer is correct (which usually is not).

We've tried both paper and online manuals but couldn't find anything but the manual is very poor so I thought I'd ask anyways.

Thanks in advance!

Hmmm... Never thought that. Guess it's time to buy that cw keyer. Thanks for the idea!

If you don't have a key, you can put the radio in RTTY mode. It will transmit a steady carrier when you squeeze the mic. With the RF power turned down all the way, the radio should produce 2 Watts output.

All right! Gonna try this later today. Great trick to know. Thanks!

The IC-7100 Advanced Instructions manual says to use the RTTY Mode when measuring SWR with the transceiver. Page 6-15 "Functions for Transmit" - Measuring SWR. And I realize it is not SWR you are measuring, but thought it might be useful to know.

Thanks! I really didn't put the two things together in my head.

I shall remember this....
The OP is doing some measurements similar to SWR.
