New user here (signed up today)....... There is a feed with multiple PD and FD departments all in one. Is there a way to just enter a specific frequency and listen to just that?

The feed gets what it gets. If you can find someone that just listens to the one freq, and they are willing to stream it, then you can get what you want.

As others have said, you can only listen to what the volunteers are providing. However keep in mind that some providers are streaming in stereo. I know that some feed providers will separate police and fire calls by putting one on the left channel and the other on the right channel. So while you can't select just one frequency to monitor, you may be able to eliminate some traffic by turning off one or the other speaker.

Someone educate me - just what kind of feed is been talked about here: is it analog or digital, how are the different transmissions combined/multiplexed into the feed, and how are they seperated on the reception end for the respective parties?

A "feed" is created when a scanner owner takes the audio output of his scanner and broadcasts it to listeners via the Internet.

The listener has no control over what the scanner owner chooses to monitor and broadcast.

It would be the same if you called me on the phone and I put my phone down next to the scanner so you could listen.

The audio from two different scanners is streamed, in stereo, to RadioReference / Broadcastify which then streams the feed in stereo over the internet, one radio on the left channel, one radio on the right channel.

You can listen to both sides simultaneously in a normal volume setting, or adjust your left and right volume controls to listen to just one side at a time.

The fact that it is analog or digital doesn't matter.

Here is an example of a stereo feed.

You could purchase your own scanner and program the frequencies you want to.
