You probably stumbled onto one of the encrypted modes. I'm not an expert on Canadian stuff, but if your Army is anything like the US, they probably don't use much UHF... At least not the ground guys anyway. Air would. The US Army uses more low-band stuff for the ground comms, and most of that is encrypted now days.

Hi
You didn't mention what type of information you are looking for but I could fill you in on what I have found here on the West Coast. I've been monitoring the military most of my scanning years since I was fortunate enough to live in towns that had military bases in them. There are some differences in allocations between the East coast from what I've seen and a little different from the US too.

As a general outline UHF milair band is used by the RCAF and RCN with 30-50 being used by Reserve units. Regular forces tend to use any frequency in the VHF-hi band with no real allocations but usually in the RCMP frequency range (here on the West Caost) and in the 149 - 151 Mhz range as well as base security and general operations. Canadian forces also make regular use of the normal VHF Marine band channels as well for operations and exercises.
HF is also used but not much in clear voice from what I've monitored. I haven't come across any kind of trunking system in use or any P25 comms as of yet but it may be in the near future. I also know that the RCAF has updated their CF-18s with new electronics including radios so there might some more encryption on the way.
One thing for sure you won't find our military near as active as the US, I had the pleasure of being in monitoring range of the NW part of Washington for a few years which was very active.
Hope this answered your question.

Canadian Military use much the same spectrum as we use in the US. Since Canada is kinda our neighbor, they tend to use generally the same stuff. the exception is LMR. Canada LMR utilize frequencies for Public Safety that would be used in the US for Military and/or Federal Government.
