You must use Sentinel to update the firmware.

Current versions of firmware available through Sentinel for the SDS100 are:

1.10.00 - Main
1.02.01 - Sub

What do you mean when you say Sentinel didn't update the firmware? Did Sentinel start and run? What error messages are you getting? Be sure of the following....

Be certain you have the latest version of the BCDx36HP Sentinel Software (Sentinel version 2.02.01) . It shows a green icon when starting (not orange).

Be sure you set the target model in Sentinel correctly before updating.. from the top toolbar, click "tools", then "target model".

Are you putting the scanner in "Mass Storage" mode when connecting it to your computer?

Be sure you are using the lower, mini-USB, port labeled "Charge", not the micro USB port.

Check your owner's manual at the bottom of page 10 and the top of page 11 for very clear instructions to upgrade your firmware and database.

The online manual is here:

One thought....

If one were able to download the firmware, couldn't they place it on the SD card \firmware and when the radio boots, it updates?

Yes, that method still works for the SDS models just as it did for the x36HP series and the HP1 and 2.
There was a site link where someone had archived all versions of firmware files organized into folders for each Uniden model but I can't find that link.

Sentinel works fine on Win10. Probably that you don’t have .NET framework properly activated, but since you have it working we won’t bother trying to help you with that issue.

As others have stated, Sentinel works great with Windows (10, 11, etc.).
You have something wrong, somewhere.
.NET framework, (in programs and features / turn Windows features on or off) is the most common.
Personally, I'd try to fix it vs a workaround.... You'll need it to do database updates also,

Is your ISP HughesNet or T-Mobile by any chance?
I recently turned up T-Mo home internet and received an error when checking Sentinel SW updates. Switched WiFi and it checks for updates with no issue. I have to ask, what's the deal with T-Mobile internet?

From what I hear, they block common ftp ports (which is what Sentinel is using...)

I am told you can call T Mobile customer service and have those ftp ports turned on.... and you can also use a vpn to access ftp.

A VPN connection has worked for some others.

This poster got a negative response from T-Mobile when he requested that they open port 21:
Right now they are telling me that 5G is not compatible with FTP. I told them that was BS and they need to open port 21. I have an open ticket with the engineers to get this resolved. Once I learn more I will post that here.
Apparently he didn't get any satisfaction from that because his follow-up post was advising that he had filed a complaint with the FCC. Hasn't posted back on that yet.

A slight workaround; I assume your cell service is through T-Mobil also, turn your wifi off feeding your cell phone and use your phone as a hotspot for your laptop or pc.

It’s a PIA but it works. I have TMO Wi-Fi also and no FTP…
