• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Picked up a P7200 from Fleabay for cheap last week..and when I do the 3 finger procedure on the radio to get it into program mode, it comes up"Radio Locked' Any idea idea on how to get around that? It won't even put the radio into program mode. If anyone has any ideas, I would be grateful, Thanks

Forts, I seem to be running into a problem. I can get out of the locked status, but when I turn off the radio and do the 3 finger procedure, it won't initiate and comes up locked again. I just cant seem to get this radio into "Program" mode. Any ideas? TIA

Could be any number of things.. I've always had mixed results trying to force them into program mode. What firmware is in the radio?

Are you holding all three side buttons during power on with the programming cable already connected? The locking on power up is normal if the personality has ‘lock status’ and ‘lock’ boxes ticked in power on options…

What are you trying to program with... Programmer or RPM? What version? I've had a few that were just stubborn as hell... and I had to use a combination of software to get them to comply. The last 7200s I dealt with had really old firmware, and the only way I could get into them was with the command line stuff to update boot/burn app then the firmware. Then I had to use an older version of RPM (6? I think..) to get in a newer old firmware... then finally RPM14 to bring it to current. It was a real chore.

Thanks fellas..Yes I’m holding all 3 down as I power up (even though RPM 14 says in the help notes to only hold PTT down on the P7200). And I’m using RPM 14 Forts. It’s not budging. Thanks for your help.

Yea, Fleabay had a bunch of P7200s, still in their boxes up for auction a few weeks ago. Maybe some of you saw them.

After pressing "M" you mut press the top side button within 1 second. Works like a toggle to lock or unlock the keyboard.
That function can be turned off with RPM.
Still, to enter programming mode, you need to hold all 3 side buttons and power up.
