• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Got a programming cable and installed the universal USB driver. Went to the programming software and nothing. In device manager it says I need a driver. I tried the other USB drivers they have and I can't even install them. Even right clicking the inf file to install I get an error. You'd think the universal USB driver would be what I need.

Things I tried:

Turned the radio on, installed the driver, rebooted the computer. Nothing.

Tried in VMware. Same thing.

Tried on a laptop. Same issue.

It's like I don't have the right USB driver for the cable. Cable says Retevis on it so I'm assuming it's correct. Should be.

Running Windows 7 64. Here's the download link: Resources Center

This main problem is that your radio ONLY operates on MURS channels. It cannot be programed for anything else.

That's not my question at all. I specifically stated I could not get the USB driver to work and as a consequence I can't use their provided software to change tones and an apparent DCS encrypt option I wanted to test to see what that was. You can download the software for this radio right there in the link.

Anyone here use the software for these radios?

You have an FTDI cable/driver incompatibility problem.

Lots of CCRs have this problem.

If your programming cable has a counterfeit Prolific chip and are using the device driver automatically installed by Windows, this device driver is intentionally incompatible with unauthorized copies of the Prolific chip.

For a further info on this problem, go to:

Thanks! That was a huge help. The Prolific driver on that website worked. Yet the version they give on the Retevis website doesn't. Does this mean the cable I bought on eBay is a counterfeit? Here's a picture of the cable.

YES... that cable contains a fake Prolific chip. A lot of people buy FTDI chipped cables now. Me, I fitted out all my cables with cp-2102 chip kits and also eliminated issues.

Connecting the radio, turning on the radio and then installing the driver last may be your problem. I have at least 10 different programs for my radios, and they all required installing the driver and then connecting the radio and turning it on. Uninstall everythng for the radio, restart the computer, and reinstall in the correct order and you should be able to make you adjustments.

I tried both methods. Once on my desktop, then in VMware, then on a laptop.
