Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

My CB is been off for a couple of years. It is a Cobra CB with weather channels on it. When I turned it on and antenna hooked up, nothing was heard, squelch all the way up and so was volume. I was only able to hear the weather channels when I switched to it but nothing on the CB. How can I fix this problem?

Base or hand-held? What are you using for an antenna? CB is almost dead in many areas. I monitored it for almost a week before I even heard a peep.

It is a base. Schoshe magnetic cb antenna is being used for it. I went next to the interstate and wasn't able to pick up anything. But when I switch to the weather channels they work just fine. Not sure if it's a antenna problem or what. The CB is a Cobra 23plus

Scosche magnetic mount CB antenna isn't very reassuring.

Even when CB is good, a poor antenna like that on a less than ideal mount is going to be a poor performer.

Not surprising you are hearing NOAA, those stubby CB antennas will work better on VHF than CB.
Even on a good day, CB is pretty quiet, other than the loudmouths on 6 and 38. Not many people use it like they did 10-20-30 years ago.

I had a Cobra 23 with weather and had the same problem. Even with squelch turned off the CB band was very quite... I checked it against a CB HT and the HT with rubber duck antenna was receiving signals across the channels, the 23 was not. I have other bad experiences with Cobra gear being sub standard. Cobra use to be the best rated cb but not so any more.

CB isn't as lively as it was before the cell invasion, but there's still plenty of activity to be found especially when the band opens.
Ch. 6 will be hopping when the band opens, but conditions on 10/11m were poor recently.
Disconnect the antenna, do the WX stations go away? If not, then replace the coax and/or the antenna and otherwise it's likely the radio itself.

Tuning an antenna is most important for transmitting. Even a paper clip can be a receiving antenna if there is a reasonable signal imput.

that made me laugh!
When I got back into ham radio, after being QRT since the early 2000's, I bought some new radios and also bought a nice President McKinley CB radio. It is a VERY nice well built rig. Unfortunately, when I hooked it up and proceeded to listen, I had discovered not a thing had changed since 1987!!!!!!! Promptly I sold the radio and bought some antennas! Absolutely NUTHIN' of value to hear on a CB. Not to mention all the static, noise, interference........
