Nice. I recall many years ago people would try to see what range they would get with their CB radio and antennas setup. Sometimes there would be the radio tuned by the local "golden screwdriver" type, or the Fire Stik vs. the 102" whip. I saw antennas with loading coils that cost more than the radio they were connected to. Lots of people with two antennas on their trucks, but with only one connected to a radio. Some really do go for the symmetry aspect. It is interesting to see these competitions though.
What was funnier to me, was when a female friend of mine would start talking. All the guys wanted to know who she was. She set up a remote rendezvous and we went to see who showed up, about a hundred guys mostly in pickup trucks were at the scene. It then turned into a competition of radios and antennas,, and the off road capabilities of the trucks.
Little did they know that the female voice came from the little two door red Plymouth Sundance, with the cheap Radio Shack TRC-430 and black Firestik antenna on the trunk lip. Nobody paid attention to cars in this rural area. CB competitions continued for about another decade after that, as cell phones and the Internet began to chip away at their popularity.
