• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Is there a reference chart available to know what years particular CB models were made? I have a Craig L-103 that I was curious about it's vintage, but so far haven't been able to determine it's year of manufacture.

You could try rigpix.com, however, on the far right side, under "other equipment," sub-topic "CB/Freeband/Export" there are a few Craig's, but no L-103. Just the L201 and the 4201. Sorry, your particular model isn't in the database. But still worth browsing around.

Oh cool, thanks! I've had it apart to replace it's speaker, but I haven't noticed any dates anywhere so far. I'll check out that website you mentioned.

Any IC's Should Have a MFG date Code On the top next to the type - Transistors also have MFG dates check the finals.

That's it! Very cool, thanks! I didn't look at the individual components closely enough to notice. I'll have to have another look. I found the schematics on cbtricks.com. I took them to Staples and had them enlarged to poster size and made multiple copies (based on the recommendations of a YouTube video so if I needed to, I could use colored pencils and trace out the specific circuit I was following to make it easier to determine which component I needed to look at next. My swr meter isn't functioning any longer though. I tried opening it up and tweaking it but that hasn't helped. So to check it I just use an external meter. There seems to be plenty of Cobra style replacement meters available, but not many with the white background like the Craig uses.

Meter doesn't work so I went inside and tweaked it...Idiot!
The needle acted like it was trying to move but it wouldn't actually move. The Tx light would come on when I keyed the mic and the needle would attempt to move. I could hear the difference of when I was keying the mic and when I wasn't. So I ran a coax through an external swr meter to see if I was transmitting and all indications were that I was transmitting. So then I actually had a conversation with another radio with it. So all indications to me are that all the functions of the radio other than the built in swr meter are working. By tweaking the built in meter, I meant I loosened and then retightened the screws that hold the needle in place. If you have any other ideas of how I can get the meter to work I'd love to hear them

Are you using a 50 Ohm load or A functioning antenna ?
even a few mW or power will hit the other radio in the room !
1st the radio actually puting out any power ? say 3-4 watts to the antenna or load ?
If the meter is Bad they sell a generic Corbra one on ebay .

Put one of these in My Cobra 148 because the meter was stuck !

I was using a functioning antenna. It's a magnet mount old Radio Shack antenna but it transmits. I had a short conversation with a truck going in the opposite direction the other night. We were both rolling and strolling like we had somewhere else to be lol. I should have a Tram 3500 here in the next couple of days, then I'll have 2 radios and 2 antennas. I'll have my daughter sit in her car in the driveway and I can drive off to various places and see how far we can actually communicate.

I've seen those meters for sale. Do you happen to know of anywhere that sells the versions with the white background like in the picture above? I'd try to keep it as original as I can if possible.
