The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I’m installing a cb radio in the center console but my bearcat is too long. Anyone k ow of a cb radio with a smaller footprint?
Quite a few small CB radios out there. We would need to know the model you have now to tell you what CB radios are smaller. Also, how much smaller do you need to go in all three dimensions?

I have the Bearcat 880. It’s too long. Maybe 2 inches smaller. I’m thinking of getting a mount brace for 3 radios I’m adding to the console.

try a President McKinney (if SSB is wanted) or a President Johnny III (no SSB) which is even smaller. both are designed to fit in the dash.

There are a good number

The biggest issue is usually Width, followed by Depth.

I don’t recommend CB without SSB or NRC as too much performance is lost.

That said, with a roof-center NMO permanent antenna (this system more important than choice of radio) even the least expensive AM-only NRC radio can perform adequately.

ANYTONE AT500 with NMO27 would meet low budget expectations. (President Harrison a higher quality choice). Short distance comms.

RadiOddity QT80 is “small”, and is full-featured. Nothing above it in price is a significant increase in abilities. True “high performance” (which matters).

An AM/FM/SSB mobile radio with adequate wattage to take advantage of that antenna or a taller NMO30 (640 whip). You’ll, Hear, and Get Heard.

A top quality installation with eveything tucked neatly away is the radio that gets used. This cannot be overstated for what matters.
