Does anyone ever use CB radios? I sometimes catch the full quieting non SSB big guns sometimes on CH 6, and sometimes on ch 19.. but i dont get much else on the CB channels locally.. unless I need an SSB radio.

Well I don't know about where you are at but here in South Bend it's pretty dead. Some traffic on 38 like construction crews and the mouths of the South on 6 but that's about it. Too bad too.... I love CB radio but I think all the obnoxiousness of the past has all but killed an exciting and fun way to ccommunicate.

It's active here in NC on those frequencies too.

But I also get a lot on ch.11 and ch.28, local and skip almost non-stop.

There about 4 or 5 more that come to life a number of times a day and are somewhat local.

Here in Pike County, OH I just set up a CB Base Station unit in order to communicate with two handheld CB Units I have. I utilize this set up to establish communication in the large area of woods next to me where I hunt and trap. In terms of activity overall on CB here locally I have found Channel 19 to be active with local trucking. There is allot of logging and local dump truck hauling outfits around so you hear most of them once or twice a day during the weekdays. Most of the other channels are pretty much quite. Although, for my purposes I like it that it way. I think given how most people have strayed away from the band CB Radio is good if you keep the following in mind:

1. You don't want to be tracked by licensing.

2. Your communication needs are within a local area of 1 to 10 miles.

3. Your communication area is fairly rural and not exposed to a high volume of electronic interference.

4. You don't want to spend a ton of money on equipment.

38?

They are using AM on a popular SSB channel?

And the likelihood of being monitored is about Zero.

With very few extreme exceptions, people don't really scan CB.
It would constantly stop on garbage 99% of the time because the squelch would have to be set very low to get the close weak stations.
