• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

The only thing in common with CB is the very limited range? Encrypted, yes man, then won't be able to hear the foul mouthed users.

The government actually now has the ability to "monitor" most radio transmissions via satellite.

I asked the same question to my friend in the military. He said he could tell me, but then he'd have to "neutralize" me!! :(

Already installed it on my tablet & Windows based cellphone. :)

Look for Dave Carr (NGQ576)

NGQ576 was my CB radio callsign back in the day when we needed a licence to operate a CB radio in Australia

In theory.

Think about the real limitations. Satellites have limited real estate. Antennas get large as frequency gets lower. Alternately, if antennas do not get larger the efficiency of the antennas goes down and the beamwidth less well controlled. Lower frequencies penetrate various levels of the ionosphere less well. Many frequencies have many users at low power levels.

What all that means is that some frequencies are inefficient to monitor from orbit. And if they are not looking specifically for a given target it is unlikely they will find anything by "accident".

There's enough trash apps that waste memory and resources now, WHY would anyone want to put this crap app on their phone? Just use a damn cb, they're everywhere and free in many cases... 73, n9zas

As a CB I agree, but there are some needs that are addressed by this app. A buff notification system in my area has their uhf repeater interfaced, allowing users outside the range of the repeater to both listen and give reports.

. Understood but UHF is only line of sight to begin with, so an app to include any Uhf system for notification makes sense. Cb does not, as it already has long distance ability, so what's the point of giving a useless, limited, service more range by yet another app that the memory available could be better utilized? Its like another app to bake cookies ... what's the point? 73, n9zas
