As long as there are American flags flying in the back of pickup trucks, there will still be CB activity

Every semi-truck on the highway has one. Best **real-time** road information there is, all you got to do is listen. Many vendors use CB to direct trucks around their delivery yards, generally another channel than 19.

I haven't seen too many residences w/ CB antennas though. I live by a state hwy, and log a few hits from trucks going by. Cellphones took "the wind out of the sail" for the use of radios. Many farmers and businesses know just make a phone call instead.

I am surprised law enforcement still uses radio -- of course a mass broadcast is the quickest way to get the "word" out to multiple players. I also see a significant number of County/ City LEO's on the phone, just got to wonder who they are talking too all the time...

Other than the local base station CB enthusiast, there are still commercial drivers who routinely use channel 19 in most of the states. I have been all across this country and have encountered CB traffic on 19. After the initial popularity of CB radios during the oil embargo in the seventies, eventually, the hobby dropped off. However, most truckers continued using said device.

In the absence of the "four-wheeler" mostly-inaccurate "bear reports", the accuracy of said channel 19 traffic tends to be a bit more accurate to say the least. No longer are we hearing "hey, good buddy", "convoy" and other dated slang.

When traveling, I still use: a) Passport Max 2 paired with Android, live radar reports; b) Cobra 25 with K40 antenna; c) two digital scanners; and d) one Garmin while traveling.

CB has proven to be quite useful to my driving efforts for things like traffic jams, weather conditions, and major road blockages. Truckers tend to help others with similar devices find their way around driving obstacles.

I will continue to use mine in your state and others.

Good info.. Thanks for the responses. I got it hook up about two hour ago have heard nothing so far on any of the channels and no response when asking for a radio check.. I'm off Hwy 7 and Blake so I would assume some trucker talk would pop up at some point.. I'll keep monitoring and keep fingers crossed..

I bring mine along in the winter to listen to the MNDoT snowplows. Often times when it is really bad the other truck drivers are paying attention to the road and not talking on the CB. Those MNDoT operators are always talking.

Good thing about MN is that MNDoT has a mandate to keep the (state) roads passable from 4AM to 8PM.

I have a CB base station I still use to talk to locals and truck drivers. When the conditions are right I talk a long way. It's just one of my fun radio hobbies.

About the only time i hear anything on Ch.9 anymore is when skip is running. Then it's mainly Hispanic operators. But CB is still alive and well!!!

I have talked to a couple truckers.. I mainly have been using it to air freeway traffic alerts for the drivers during rush hour and snow storms

19 gets pretty chatty when the traffic backs up in the metro. If you go to a construction area (like by the new Stillwater Bridge) they are using various channels for short range communications between trucks.

There is a group of a few guys on base stations in the south metro (IGH, Cottage Grove, West St Paul, Hastings) who are active most days on Ch 19 or sometimes 18. I heard mention of nets a few nights a week on 38 LSB too.
