• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

CB Squeal on Receive

New here desperately trying to find an answer. I have a Can Am Spyder motorcycle with an OEM CB and third party, Edsets, helmet headset.

With the OEM antenna and coax the SWR was over 3 across from 1 to 40. I figured this is probably because there is so little steel in the bike there is an insufficient ground plane. I also was having a severe squeal problem on transmit. I decided to switch to a Firestik No Ground Plane antenna and coax. I modified the OEM antenna mount to accept the thread of the Firestik.

That solved the squeal on transmit problem. It also improved the SWR but not like I expected it to. It is about 3 across all channels. I adjusted it so the SWR is about 2 and below from channels 1 to 20 but it goes up to well over 3 on 40. That's not a problem for me as I almost always only use channel 1 riding with the local Goldwing chapter.

But I get a squeal whenever the CB is receiving a transmission. I've been using a Midland handheld for testing. I can't get rid of the squeal in receive. Anyone have any ideas what may be causing the squeal on receive? I talked to a tech at Firestik but we stopped when I could not at that moment tell him for certain that I did have an NGP antenna. I wasn't home to verify that while I was talking to him. I've had email exchanges with Ed Davis of Edsets but he doesn't have any solutions to offer at this point. He wants to find a Can Am with CB to do some more research into the Can Am system.

Where do I go digging now?

From what I remeber, the NGP Firestik antenna has the main threading and then another connection to be made.
