• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I know there is a "tool" for removing the face plate from the body. Is there any way to do the removal/separation without the tool? How does the tool function?

My rig has the remote kit on it and I'm wanting to make it a single unit. Can this be done with the parts I have or is there something else I need (cable)? Are there pins that match between the face plate and the body like a speaker mic has on an HT?

The tool is just a plastic pry too similar to a putty knife. It is used to separate the face from the back section of the remote head. It is also used to pop off the face on radio section.

The face of the remote is mated to the radio using an adapter piece called a back housing. If you do not have the back housing, you can not convert from remote. The back housing adapts the shape of the face to the shape of the radio which are different sizes.

Here is a link to the basic service manual for the CDM's. It contains instructions on all this plus exploded assembly drawings. http://www.novacommunications.com/images/productpdfs/CDM Series Basic Service Manual.pdf

The part number for the CDM1250/1550 back housing is: 1586093B02. If you do not have it, I have a spare that I offer to you.

The 'tool' just neatly pries the plastic pieces apart without scarring the plastic. A used worthless credit card (I use my wife's then claim ignorance!) works just fine. The flex from the head to the remote adapter is reused to connect to the chassic when you mate the unit back together. Make sure to pay attention to the 'O' markings on the cable and the chassis / circuit board to get the cable polarity correct. If the radio doesn't power up correctly, double check them. No display? Make sure the display is fully seated into the front housing and pushed all the way down.

Well I got the remote kit adapters off the body and face plate.

However, in the process I sheared off the round transistor on the part that goes on the body when I got the adapter to pop off (used to credit cards, one on the left and one on the right, then pushed the part over).

Does anyone have a picture of the circuit board inside the rig side of the remote kit? That may give me an idea where it goes back to, may be a bear to solder it back together though - very tiny solder pads now.

Sure that's a transistor? Sounds more like a capacitor. Can you post pics?

Here is the board that is missing the part now:

The round silver/black thing on the other side (this is off the back of the face plate) is what the part is, the board in the black housing on the left. I have the broken off one in a bag.
