Cessna civilian aircraft is escorted from restricted airspace by F-16 fighter jets after being intercepted for entering area around UN in NYC

I should have picked this up. Comms for these TFR intercepts are on 121.5.

Thanks. I was scanning 121.5 during that period but heard nothing. I hear the NYC Transit PD on 161 so I should have had no problem with picking up aircraft over NYC. I've added those 2 discrete channels to my scan list. If these F-16s were from AC their 'TAC' is 261.0, only a dial click away from 260.9, which is an interesting connection. See my recent post in Military Monitoring.

I heard it on 260.9 and 228.9. Started at 13:59 until maybe 14:30
the air to air Tac used was 228.900 yesterday, verified. The incident was heard on 260.900 and 228.900
Yep these two are some of the busier frequencies in the dozen or so MilAir I monitor from south of Trenton New Jersey.

Their altitudes are so high I have no problem with reception with a tri-band Sputnik. Sometimes I don't hear the interception on guard because they have to drop so much altitude to intercept. I still do here the interceptions on guard if they are four thousand feet or above. Depends on conditions and location.

With Biden in Delaware these interceptions are becoming commonplace.

I didn't want to say anything political but, since he takes the weekends off the ATC might as well invest in a radio with all the unicom and CTAF freqs to eliminate these frequent events

My question is HOW can an F-16 escort a Cessna that is probably doing between 90-130 knots?
Excellent point. The way the fighter jet gets the attention of the violating aircraft is... From the times I've heard it. "This is an armed military fighter jet and you have been intercepted in a restricted area, make a sharp right turn immediately and rock your wings to acknowledge". If they ignore, the warnings get more stern, they can fire flares across the bow of the plane from anywhere as long as they are seen.

These Pilots know, they get a feel for things. They will accomplish their mission anyway they have to. If they are able to make contact with the plane on guard they usually tell them to radio the FAA or call a certain number immediately. That's a bad day for that pilot.

They orbit around the target, they aren't doing 80 knots neck and neck with a 172 but they can be right at stall speed and blast past the cessna maybe a hundred feet away while throwing out a few flares doing this until they get the targets attention enough to scare the sh*t out of any pilot to see an F16 close enough to touch

Considering everything going on today I'm surprised they didn't just vaporized him! If he's any kind of pilot he should know better and that never should have happened to begin with.
