• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Charging overlap with NX5000/NX3000

As I'm considering picking up a few additional Kenwood LMR portables for my outdoor group and I'm trying to figure out how to maintain the least number of different charger models that I need to travel with.

Let's say I ultimately end up with a mix of NX5000 and NX3000 portables for the crew (one 5000 for myself and 3000s for everyone else of course ;)). Oh and for the heck of it, I also have one of the TH-D75 amateur units.

Some interesting overlaps I've noticed from reading the spec sheets:
  • The NX3000 portables seem to share the same single-unit charger with the TH-D75 (both seem to use the KSC-25LSK)
  • The new KSC-526K multi-charger has pocket options for both the NX5000 portables (KSC-52PB) and NX3000 portables (KSC-52PC). Given the compatibility of the single-unit charger between the NX3k and TH-D75, I would assume a KSC-52PC pocket in a multi-charger would also charge the TH-D75.
  • The new single-unit charger for NX5000 is the KSC-52BK, which is described as having interchangeable pockets, but the manual for the KSC-52BK only mentions the KSC-52PA and KSC-52PB pockets.
Has anyone tried the KSC-52PC pocket in a KSC-52BK charger to charge an NX3000? This would seem quite convenient as I could travel with one charger base, a spare pocket, and be equipped to charge every radio model someone might need to charge.

I have the 526K charger specifically to charge my NK5K, VP8000 and NX3K radios. I leave it with 2 B pockets and 4 C pockets to charge the fleet while traveling. Yes, you could carry a spare pocket to swap out as needed. Its convenient to only use one hotel plug instead of 4+.
