Hello, what type of radios do Chicago Police and fire use? What is that squawk that I here at the end of transmissions on CPD zones? And finally how come you here the squawk on the zones and not the city wides? Please let me know thank you.

Majority of the CPD radios are xts5000 uhf. CFD EMS just switched over to xts5000's as well. I'm not sure what CFD Fire uses, but they will soon be the last to switch over to xts5000 uhf's. The 'squawk' you here at the end is MDC data burst. Essentially, it is a small, audible data packet that is sent after the ptt button is depressed that sends the radio ID over the air to the dispatch console. This is used in case of an officer emergency, open mic on a zone. They are on citywide channels from what I've heard.

CPD uses XTS3000's some XTS5000's and there are still some analog Sabers out there. The is the same for the most part. I have seen the ambulances with mostly XTS5000's
