Can you install windows on a chrome book?

I believe the short answer is, "Possible but difficult". Type that question into your favorite Internet search engine and look at the results.

I think a better alternative would be a cheap Windows tablet or laptop. I just looked at Amazon and there are lots of options under $200.

There's always this from Micro Center (Dallas) --> ASUS BR1100CKA-YS02 11.6" Laptop Computer - Gray; Intel Celeron N4500 1.1GHz Processor; 4GB DDR4 RAM; 64GB eMMC - Micro Center <-- Hard to beat the $99.99 price tag. Now I understand that it's an in-store offer only (it appears that they now allow web orders with shipping) and may have fairly limited update options. It comes with Windows 10 (several that got them say Win 10 Pro) and Micro Center indicates it will upgrade to Windows 11 at no charge.

There are several models with various options being sold, but all are sold based on what is currently in stock and you can't pick which model you want. They're basically the same options as sold, but some models allow you to upgrade certain things while others don't. There's a list of what serial numbers are what base models and what can/can't be upgraded, but I can't find it right now.

These apparently were made for schools that were doing remote learning and imported in huge numbers and these are the leftovers. One interesting thing about them is that the ones we've seen include a SIM card slot for cell phone connectivity (no voice, just data). This slot is empty but if you purchase a SIM card from your provider it should work (nobody I know has tried yet). They have a Celeron processor, limited (and fixed) RAM, and limited (and generally fixed) storage. Folks here have been using it for radio programming and field FT8 use and have had no issues.

Thanks for the advice folks. The seller of the 29 dollar chrome book let me cancel the order. Cheap option made me jump before i could see if it was going to actually work.

One of the problems with many chromebooks is not enough storage (hard drive). The computer I am using uses over 20 GB of storage just for Windows 10 files without any apps or files I create. Best Buy had a similar ASUS on sale for around $100. The motherboard is also used in a higher model and while the rom is soldiered in, mine has an unused slot for a NVME SSD which will give you more than enough space. Also be careful on the version of Windows. If it is the "S" version, you are limited to downloads from the approved list on the Microsoft store. You can upgrade from "S" for free to the home version which will allow normal program installation.

I think jaspence is referring to this one https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-1...star-black-star-black/6498806.p?skuId=6498806

It has a slightly older processor than the one from Microcenter but it has a larger screen. If all your using it for is proscan and sentinel then I recommend getting the one with the larger screen. It can be really annoying trying to read frequency numbers on small screens.

You will have to switch that laptop out of "S Mode" though to even load Sentinel...
Other wise only apps from the microsft app store...

Sentinel does not require state-of-the-art equipment.
Any 2nd-hand laptop running Win7 and up will work just fine.
I have a 2011 or so Gateway with a 17" screen for my 536 and 200.
No problems at all so far...
