I went to a corporate tag sale this past weekend, I was able to pick up a Cisco 7941 IP Phone for $25.00.

I powered it up and it is stuck is "Upgrading" mode.

I looked up the reset info on Cisco's website and i entered the reset code and followed the instructions, but it seems to have made no difference.

Does anyone have any advice or tips on what i can do to do a complete reset of this phone so i can upgrade the firmware?

I intend to use this phone for VOIP and Land line.

I am running windows vista.

im assuming it is plugged into a router..................

either way. Factory Reset Cisco 7940, 7960, 7941, and 7961 IP Phones - AllThingsCisco.com

best bet.... your going to have to TFTP the new firmware to it after the hard reset is performed.

allthingscisco.com said:
Example: Factory reset and uploading firmware with TFTPD32 software.

Download tftpd32 and install it to your computer (there is a 64bit version for windows 7, 8, run it as administrator)
Download tftpd32

Add a static IP address to the computer ex IP 192.168.1.1 Mask 255.255.255.0

Run the software, and go to settings.

Start TFTP and DHCP server services from the global tab.

Set TFTP directory at the TFTP tab.

At the DHCP tab set the following: IP pool starting address to 192.168.1.1 Size of pool 5 (could be just two) Default router 192.168.1.1 Mask 255.255.255.0 Additional Option 150

Download the phone firmware files into TFTP directory.

Reset the phone to factory default (one of the above options).

Connect the phone to the computer.

Power cycle the phone.

At the DHCP server window, you will see the IP address allocation: 192.168.1.1 computer (TFTP server) and next IP address allocated to the phone 192.168.1.2.

The phone should start transferring the new firmware that you put into the TFTP directory (you can see it on the phone screen or the TFTP log viewer).

If the phone is not working like it should be, look at the TFTP logs to watch what files the phone is trying to download

Make sure you have the right firmware, depending on the phone model.

If it is still not working, remove all the firmware (reset), and try a different one, a lower firmware release.

I can't figure it out. I wanted to use it as an ROIP and landline but I can't get the landline to connect. I'm not sure how much it would be to have it fixed by someone? Or should I just get another phone?

are you using a ISP with VOIP services? if your using just a standard Data package and a normal router, that doesn't work.

for ROIP, you need a ROIP Gateway connected to the router first. need to know your network structure LAN Side. and ISP Services used.

There is a lot more to it if you want to make this work.
The phone needs a lot of information for it to work right, including the Gatekeeper address, Gateway address, assigned phone number, security info, etc. etc. etc.

If you have your own home VoIP system, you'll be able to do this. If you are trying to access a carriers VoIP system, you'll need some help. It isn't as easy as just putting a phone on the network and picking up the handset.

he wants a ROIP, VOIP wont even accept ROIP commands.

has to have a ROIP Gateway device between the phone and router.
