Just noticed last night that a narcotics unit's SNACC TG (HPD RIDs, but I think a Task Force) is now encrypted. For their sake (very poor to negligent OPSEC, juvenile commentaries, etc.) it shoulda been encrypted right from the start, but it'll be interesting to see/hear who else may now be running encryption on SNACC.

Vegas Area Radio Geek Alerting Network enjoyed a wonderful lunch last Saturday at the South Point Casino. We noticed high security, and assumed it was for our protection, as we tend to carry a lot of valuable electronic equipment and cash around and stand-out (more than those TMT clowns!) as we move about. So imagine our total shock & surprise to discover (via the SIGINT 'signature' of very strong, encrypted transmissions on three particular frequencies) that by sheer coincidence, the President of the United States would soon join us at South Point!

Further details & photos are being saved for the July issue of the VARGAN newsletter, however we would like to thank the White House Communications Agency's Presidential Trip Officer for providing the VARGAN attendees with a detailed show & tell of their brand-new Roadrunner vehicle & briefly tuning-off the National Command Authority Emergency Actions/MEECN SATCOM circuit & tuning-in the Fox broadcast channel downlink so that we could catch a bit of the South Korea vs Mexico FIFA match. In these turbulent days, I would be remiss to not point out that NCA basic connectivity to MEECN was maintained on UHF SATCOM while we watched the soccer match. Also they graciously delayed radio transmissions in the US government's VHF spectrum so as not to de-sense our receivers while listening to a dispatch of a rabid dog call on a Mohave County SO (Arizona) VHF repeater for a few moments.

Thanks also to Charlie Golf.

KLAS Belly landing

King Aire BE9 landed gear up on Runway 8 RT. Probably get a good view from sunset blvd. Currently ATIS says the runway is closed. Fox5news has a picture of it, apparently nobody got hurt.

Belly landing: Skin damage, antenna damage, gear door, flaps, gear itself, also complete teardown of both engines, new props, new hub and any damage to engines repaired. A 40 grand 'oh crap' at least.

Attended a meeting with Henderson PD lately and while I didn't ask or push for specifics, it seems like the newish chief is really pushing for some sort of geographic-based policing. Not sure what exactly she meant by that, since it's kinda something that most PDs including HPD already do, but there may be some area/beat changes taking place on or around 13 August if I understood correctly.

Spoke to some HPD SWAT officers, and *if* they knew what they were talking about & *if* I understood what they were saying correctly, they're in the process of getting "new radios" with encryption. I hate to speculate more, but would believe that to mean they're just getting AES keyed on their existing radios. If SWAT gets it, other HPD special units & perhaps Patrol may too, just like the narcs task force encrypted one of their TGs recently.

HPD Chief Watson comes from Arlington Texas PD, and was a Deputy Chief there when Arlington PD migrated to encrypted P25 talk groups (including Dispatch):

It seemed like all of their TGs were like that - at least the PSU (or whatever it was called), various stakeout/surveillance channels, etc. The cussing, manufacturing of reasons to pull people over, derogatory talk about peers and superiors, etc. was interesting and informative.
I never heard NLVPD go on like that.

The only thing that came close was in Reno years ago where the gang unit was trying to put a tracker on a guy's car and got a chance when his girlfriend left the house - they flat out made up a nonsense traffic violation to have an excuse to pull her over to keep her away while they did it.

Should be a BLM Tac, possibly a BLM repeater input in some areas. I caught it today too (if I remember right the NAC was 293) & in past years, I've caught tactical ops (P25) & SECDOI personal security detail (analog) on it.
