• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So we got 2 new CM200D radios recently. I tried to program them using the CPS that we already had and it says codeplug not supported. Is there a way to roll the firmware back or something so the software that we already have will work? Or am I stuck paying the $169 to buy the current CPS from Motorola? I hate having to use different software for each radio.

If I do upgrade the software will it have backwards compatibility for my older radios or will I have to use 2 separate versions?

Not with anything that can be discussed on this website. You would need to buy the latest CPS or find someone that has it that can program it for you.

Newer CPS will work with older firmware but newer firmware will not work with older CPS

What do you mean by not with anything that can be discussed on this website? Is that in reference to the software or rolling back the firmware? I am not asking for details I am just trying to figure out which topic your statement pertains to for my understanding.

As for the software, Motorola Solutions had submitted a ticket to fix my account. I guess it was set up with all the wrong settings and now that I can get to the new site I still can't order anything new yet... Still waiting on my "official" quote to arrive in my email.

It's the software that might allow you to rollback the firmware. While not guaranteed, it's more of a 50/50 chance.

Motorola likes to take their time when it comes to that. You could be waiting a bit for that to get sorted out.

Gotcha. Hopefully they don't release new versions of the software very often so I am not doing this again next time we buy another radio. :)

If you're buying new radios from a legit source - have you checked the price to have them program the radio for you? It should be super easy if you just email them with an existing codeplug. Many shops would include Free programming with new radio purchases, or charge just a minimal amount to put in a few basic channels. More exotic programming can cost more if someone needs to build a new codeplug for you, but it sounds like you've already got a working sample that could be copied over.

The issue is the radios where preprogrammed for our main facility and they needed to be programmed for another operation we have at that location that uses different frequencies. I did end up calling and getting the CPS 2.11 and it is good to go now. I had to ignore the warnings about cloning from an old codeplug to a new codeplug but for now it is working. This is just another reason I hate dealing with our Motorola mobile radios vs our Kenwood HTs.
