• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Crawford State Park Ops is using encryption now, something top secret must be going on. I was there Monday-Thursday this week, 6 rigs and 3 hosts for 2 camp grounds. Any other state parks using encryption and if so, why?

Ridgway State Park doesn't use encryption, and during summer is pretty busy. I can't understand why Crawford would be encrypted. Next time you're there rustle up a park ranger and ask.

I've been hearing Crawford State Park off and on in the clear. Not exactly busy, but not encrypted either.
It's never very often, and only on certain radios. Most of the time only one of the units in a conversation is encrypted, and as mentioned earlier in the thread it seems to be maintenance units rather than rangers which makes it all the more odd.

Its almost like all the radios are enc capable, but for some reason the encryption gets turned on a few radios and either nobody knows its happening, or they don't know how to turn it off. It likely doesn't matter to them since they all still see to hear each other OK.

I've heard the same thing on Highline Lake and Colorado River State Park.
