I also believe you can hear the Coast Guard talking to boaters on Marine Channel 9, 156.450. I don't monitor the marine frequencies on a regular basis, but I believe, in the past, after initially making contact on Channel 16, I have heard the CG tell boaters to switch to Channel 9.

Also, don't forget 122.900 and 123.100. The coast guard in the NYC area have been known to use these air frequencies too.

The annual "Parade of Ships" is coming in to the area for Fleet Week. They are coordinating on 277.8 (am)

In response to countryboy879, for the Jersey Shore:

VHF Marine (No PL/DPL)
Ch. 16 - 156.800
Ch. 21A - 157.050
Ch. 22A - 157.100
Ch., 23A - 157.150
Ch. 81A - 157.075
Ch. 82A - 157.125
Ch. 83A - 157.175

AM Frequencies (No PL/DPL)
345.000 - Primary Air Ops
237.900 - Secondary Air Ops
383.900 - Primary Air to Ground Ops
282.000 - Secondary Air to Ground Ops
326.150 - Primary Ground Ops
379.050 - Secondary Ground Ops

164.9125 - N.Y. Repeater - Used by Station Sandy Hook
This frequency was originally analog with PL 103.5. Then, it went digital. I don't know if it's both analog and digital or just digital now. Maybe someone can confirm this.

As I stated earlier, you can also occasionally hear the Coast Guard talking to boaters on Marine Channel 9, 156.450. Also, Marine Channel 17, 156.850, may be of some interest. It's the State Police Marine Division VHF Channel. I don't know how often they use it though. The private tow boats also use this channel.

If you're up near Sandy Hook, as N2GGE stated, you may want to monitor 122.900. 123.100 for Coast Guard Air (probably talking to the airport towers) and as ecps92 listed, in addition to 164.9125, monitor 171.2875 and 171.3125.

That should cover it.

One other comment, Yes the below are the Standard channels used by the USCG in the VHF Marine, but they can go to ANY of the Marine Channels.

Ch.06 and Ch.12 are routine for Comms with Vessels preparing to Transit the Harbor [Boston], don't forget Ch.09

Also chit-chat and some drills occur on other channels...
Ch.74 is used daily by CG Station Pt Allerton

So they can...they do...and have popped anywhere, so SEARCH

I am amazed that only Boston and NYC have reported the use of the CG LMR Channels. are folks just not searching?

Not to hijack the thread as it was for NNJ/NYC area but down here in Philly / Delaware bay USCG has started using 165.3125R extensively with almost full time encryption.

Analog Encryption ? ie DVP/DES or Might this be P25 since this is the new CG-22 aka NET-122 [Depending on Radio and Mode]
