• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Just on the surface.... if the SPEAKER makes noise when you key the mic.....
Either something is wrong with the mic or it is not wired for the radio.
If both mics are "wired for and working on" another radio... then that wiring might not be right for the Cobra 21XLR

I say this because.... in a normal working case... the RCV wire in the mic is grounding the speaker so that it WILL make sound in receive...BUT when you key up... the speaker ground gets lifted so that it does NOT make sound in transmit.

It sounds like yours is grounding the speaker when you press the button.
In many brands of radios.... they redefine the microphone pinouts and seemingly reverse the functions. As in.... the RCV and XMT pins are swapped.

I would spend a little time with that mic.... if you have a meter/DMM of some kind....

I show correct wiring for a Cobra 21XLR to be....

Pin 1 - GND
Pin 2 - MIC AUDIO
Pin 3 - XMT
Pin 4 - RCV

if you put one lead of your meter in pin 1, put the meter in continuity, and touch the other lead in pin 4 it should MAKE ..UNTIL you key up then stop.
When you key up..... pin 1 should MAKE to pin 3 WHEN you key up but not UNTIL you key up.

If that isn't working right... that could explain what you see.

Sadly..... "same connector" doesn't mean "same wiring".

Apologies for not following up earlier. Have you connected the CB to an antenna? If so, can you observe the S meter moving, indicating that it is receiving signals? If signals are being received, it's possible that the speaker isn't properly grounded, which loops through the microphone switch as previously mentioned.
