• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

So I bought a cobra 29 Ltd Bluetooth cb today at a pawnshop for $40 yep good price to indicate some issues lol...

Plugged it in gave it about 5 minutes turned it on and immediately it blew the 2 amp inline fuse.. Replaced it tried again blew again yep here comes the idiot thing grabbed another "2 amp fuse"... it blew that 10 amp fuse just after releasing blue smoke blue smoke from the radio...
yeah i shoulI of looked at the fuse and verified it was the correct fuse I'm an idiot and like I tell my wife I'll change eventually...

Ok so normally I would go out and buy a new radio...

Which I did (29 Ltd classic)and send the other one in for repair I was planning to move my 510 pro in to the house and use the cobra mobile but I couldn't pass up $79 for a second unit...

Now I have mobile and house CB'so taken care of its time to look at this radio... Upon inspection it looks like I blew the 1n4001 diod (indicates reversed polarity) that's easy enough and while I'm at it I'm going to pick up a volume/squelch know is there anything else I should look at or test? Some one bent the **** out of it at one point and the squelch is punched so it'll need replaced...

Sounds like you found the cure. Put the protection diode in and apply power to the radio. See if it works. If not then it's round 2.

Ohm the pot out and get the correct one. IF it is broken to the point it will not read then look in the back where it is stamped 5K or 10K and replace it with that value. If you have an old CB laying around that is no good then take one out of it. If the value is a little off it will make it move slow or fast depending on the value but should work.

Note: When inserting the new In4001 Diode make sure the cathode (-) the negative side is facing to the shortest side of the case. Make sure the white stripe is near the small transformer facing towards the shortest distance to the side of the radio. Good Luck!

Pot was functioning just some one had wacked it pretty hard and actually bent it at some point and tried to repair it improperly by bending with pliars and squished it in.. The squelch would not rotate in its alignment far enough to function usefully so i pilled it apart and properly straightened it in inspecting the pot noticed that the metal of the face plate nut was metal fatigued so i replaced it with a factory part

Radio has been in my truck for what 2 weeks now?
