Not just the BCs...

E-mail from my FD.

EMAIL FOR PGFD

The PG Fire Chief is still committed in converting to the 800 COG
numbering system effective October 1, 2007. As most of you have
probably heard, Montgomery Battalion Chief 791 has been coming over here with that designation for over two years. In a combined effort,
Montgomery will also be converting to full compliance on October 1. In
order to allow a few weeks for the "shock affect" to wear off, we will
be activating the following designations in the CAD at 0700 hours,
Monday, September 17, 2007. Some operational units will be in place
sooner.

Duty Chief 800 On Duty Major

Division Chief 801 On Duty Division Chief
Division Chief 802 On Duty Division Chief
Division Chief 803-814 Off Duty Division Chiefs

Safety 801 On-duty Vol Safety
Safety 802 On-duty Vol Safety
Safety 803-813 Off Duty Numbers for volunteers

Air Unit 819
Air Unit 845

Ambulance Bus 855

All Battalion Chiefs Everyone received the Battalion Chief
designation list at the last deputies meeting.

All Medic Units

October 1, 2007 at 0700 hours, the 8 designation will take affect for
all remaining apparatus. Internal car numbers for now will not be
affected, but will be evaluated based on regional need. If you have any questions please let me know. If not please advise your personnel that are covered in the list above of the changes and the date. I have
included the COG plan for unit numbering in the region for your review.

EMS1 EMS801 Career AEMS Shift Commander
EMS2 EMS802 Career AEMS Daywork Operations

Montgomery County has been threatening to change to the COG numbering for two years. I guess they are going to wait and see how well it works in PG first now.

Im just guessing here. I would imagine the county is waiting till they receive the 37 new fire engines. As you may know the new fires apparatuses will have the new COG Number System painted on them when they are delivered to the county.

press release for the new trucks:

I have a funny feeling its going to be a confusing day tomorrow for everyone. It should be a interesting day in listening to Montgomery County Fire.

IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 12, 2007

National Capital Region First Responders Get New Numbers

Montgomery and Prince George’s County Implement Regional Numbering
System

Beginning on Monday, October 15, 2007 the first phase of the
Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG) unit numbering
system for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) and
the Prince George’s County Fire/Emergency Medical Services Department
(PGFD) will be implemented. This transition is in compliance with the
National Capital Region (NCR) Council of Governments (COG)
Apparatus/Unit renumbering. This system is based on the assignment of
an individual numeric jurisdictional identifier for each major
geographic jurisdiction within MWCOG.

Traditional identification of fire/EMS units, command officers, and
support personnel will be changed over a period of the next few weeks
and months throughout the region. Soon all Montgomery County fire,
rescue and EMS units will identify themselves with our jurisdictional
identifier of “7”. All Prince George’s County Fire/EMS units will
utilize jurisdictional identifier of “8”.

2 – New Numbers

For example, the paramedic (ALS) unit that responds out of Silver
Spring Fire Station 1 which used to be identified as Medic 19,
starting Monday, that same unit will use the radio identifier
Medic701, seven (7) related to Montgomery County and oh-one (01)
associated with fire station #1. While at the same time, the basic
life support (BLS) ambulance from the same station, formerly known as
Ambulance 18, will be identified as Ambulance701.

While the initial change may sound confusing, the NCR MWCOG
renumbering system will assist in the inter-operational capabilities
and regional response of units dispatched outside of their
jurisdictions and assist incident commanders in readily identifying
out of county apparatus that respond mutual aid into Montgomery County
(7), Prince Georges (8), the District of Columbia (0) and Northern
Virginia. The jurisdictional identifiers are also used to identify
the ‘trunked’ radio resources assigned to each jurisdiction in the
radios. The agencies within MWCOG share programming across the
‘trunked’ radio systems in the region to facilitate interoperability
and these identifiers are used to facilitate identification of, and
navigation to, those resources in the mobile and portable radios.

3 – New Numbers

Unit numbering is based on the assignment of numeric jurisdictional
identifiers to each major political jurisdiction within MWCOG. These
assignments are as follows:

0 - Washington, DC
1 - Arlington County
2 - City of Alexandria
3 - Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority
4 - Fairfax County
5 - Prince William County
6 - Loudoun County
7 - Montgomery County
8 - Prince George's County
9 - Frederick County

Within Montgomery County, the MWCOG numbering will be implemented in
two (2) phases, the first of which begins Monday, October 15, 2007 to
include all first response units from all local fire and rescue
stations and Duty Operations Chief (DOC) level and operations
personnel under the DOC. Within the next six (6) months all other
staff and support units (and personnel) will be introduced into the
regional numbering scheme.

COG Numbering System for Prince George's County effective October 1, 2007

Can anyone help by updating the list of Chiefs because obviously Chief Sedgwick is gone, and Chief Ferreira of Safety went to BWI ARFF. So I do believe an update is in order along with responsibilities for each bureau chief?

Thank you in advance

Unfortunately the answer will have to be no.

One of the Database/Wiki guidelines is that we don't identify the names of specific people using a radio system (Page 9 of the DB Admin Handbook).

Since the forums are an extension of the Database and the Wiki, this rule will carry over into the forums.

It's acceptable to post a list of Radio ID's with generic identifiers such as Chief 1, Chief 2, Deputy Chief 1, etc but anything that includes the name of the person assigned to that ID would be off limits.

Thanks.

Then I must ask why did someone post the list back in '07 and its still here after that long? I'm just asking for future reference. with last names only and it has not been removed? Furthermore, since you can't list it with names then a general pgfd list is just fine, I am more concerned about Car numbers then who necessarily drives them . Thanks again

If memory serves, the current regulations on privacy and protection came out in 09-10. Obviously that list - wherever that might be- is rather old, and as of now, technically in violation of federal (and possibly some state) laws.

If it exists anywhere here on this site, please let us know so it can be promptly removed...Mike

Privacy laws, etc. Protect patients from negligence, malpractice, doctor shopping etc. Firefighters, EMS, and police are not exempt under any law anywhere that I can find and I have many resources. If that were in fact true, a firefighter for example wouldn't have his first initial and last name on his turn out coat, or helmet, a cop or any other public servant would not wear a name tag. Fire departments around the countr wouldn't be able to publicize on their website the names of people promoted to any rank besides firefighter. That is public information, now I haven't read the "laq" u talk about on here. But I have many a friend outside of the fire service and very highly paid. I won't name where as I don't have his permission but the point is your website may not allow the inclusion of said information but that doesn't make it the breaking of state or federal laws. Furthermore, if this were true THE FDNY wouldn't be able to publicly name akl Cars and the personnel who operate them if it was illegal.

Now what I am asking someone to do is list the unit designations of the many Cars used by PGFD.
