Anyone have experience with the Comet SBB-1 antenna and receiving low band? Antenna looks like it performs well for RX of UHF/VHF/800.

No TX required at all for low band, 33mhz, 46mhz.

Thanks

I have an SBB-1 on my car and use it for Tx/Rx on 2m/70cm. I haven't connected it to the BCT15 scanner in the car because I can't imagine it's going to do very well on VHF low... which I do listen to. My scanning antenna is a Tram 1199, which cost about $17 and does quite well on VHF low... as well as all the higher bands it covers.

popnokick I have gotten rid of the glass mount. After breaking three in parking garages, I am back to looking at the SBB-1 (which I looked at a while back) because they just bend and come right back. The antennas I have up top now are bent and will probably break again as well.

I have a full length VHF 1/4 wave mounted to my hood 1/4 panel , but can't put three antennas there

Ahh, I see. We're in a similar predicament. I use the SBB-1 because my garage is low clearance and the SBB-1 hits every time I go in / out. But it simply flexes and no harm done. My glass mount scanner antenna is tilted back to an angle so it clears the top of the garage sill... otherwise, it would smack the sill as well. I have my SBB-1 on an NMO mount and replace it sometimes with the Comet / Maldol EX-510 when I want to work 6M. But I have to be VERY careful to remember to remove it and switch back to the SBB-1 BEFORE I go into the garage. A few years ago I forgot and ripped a hole in the roof. Expensive body work to get it fixed. So be careful when someone tells you, "Drill the hole and do a permanent mount." What I would really like to do is figure out where I could mount a very long quad band antenna to cover 10M-70cm... the full range of my radio.

I already have the holes in my roof. Have yet to rip a hole in my 2002 Yukon XL roof (when they were still metal), but how many Tram 1/4 wave VHF antennas can I snap? I cut the 17" antenna down to 14", but they still get smacked around up there.
