I have a Yaesu 8900R and it came with the Comet UHV 4. I checked out the antenna with an antenna analyzer (Vectronics) and the swr is off the scale on all bands. I cannot tune the darn thing. It seems electrically sound, i.e. not shorted as per a vom meter, yet there is no change in the swr whatever I do. I have tried grounding it, different mounts to no avail. I am thinking the thing is a dud! I check my meters against known good antennas and it works fine. It is very bizaar, I would think it would at least tune 2 meters! Any similar experiences or advice appreciated!

Is the coax detachable? test the run, make sure you have continuity from shield to shield and center to center

no change in SWR regardless of tuning attempts sounds like the power isn't even getting to the antenna. it'd at least dip from 20:1 to 15:1 somewhere.

tnx

the coax run is not the problem as I attached the antenna to a different mount (known to be good) and still no movement on the swr. It is a puzzle..but thanks for your response!

I think you've got a bunk aerial, then. Contact Comet or your vendor; usually comet is really good about customer service

in the meantime you can solder 19 inches of brass rod or stiff wire to the center pin of a PL-259, stick it on the mount and at least listen to 2m/70cm to get your fix :p my 396 had a chunk of cat5 stuck in the SMA connector for a week or so until my antennas came in.
