If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

My roommate just built a gaming computer and bought some alienware speakers for it. Whenever i use my cb he hears me through the speakers. Besides buying different ones is there a way to fix it so he doesn't hear me?

Torroids on the speaker wires. I had to put torroids on both ends (at the plug and speakers) to keep my HF rig out when I was on 80 meters.

If someone clipped the modulation circuit trying to improperly tweak and peak your radio, instead of a 100% modulation envelope you'll produce square waves. Square waves are rich in harmonics and will bleed into other audio amps. If you have a scope, you can adjust your audio to 100% modulation and you'll sound clear as well, assuming you still have the limiter. Good Luck...

I had a similar problem as a teen back in the 70's but it was my stereo speakers. My solution then was to shut off my stereo while talking on the CB. I found out after sneaking out and coming back home and finding my window locked, that I was coming across all the speakers in the entire house. Point is, you may fix those speakers from picking you up but there are probably more in the area that can hear what your saying.

Your being too logical!
This is not the recommended golden screwdriver methodology! :)

This is also assuming that they did not play with the RF deck and now requires a spectrum analyzer to correct... which happens in 99% of radios that I have seen get a "peak" .....

When the golden screwdrivers actually learn that you cannot use your ear to perform these adjustments.. this will cease to be an issue.
But it means they need to actually use REAL test equipment and have real training... and not some dosy or para dynamics or whatever meter they use... because to those meters that clipping RF envelope looks like more power when it's really not much more than they had to start with... not to mention the power generated off to the sides that's just completely wasted....

That'll work. Even a handful of those little clip-on ferrite chokes is usually enough. Had a similar, horrible problem with my son's computer speakers. My speakers in the shack? Fine. Neighbors? Fine. Stereo in the living room? Fine. His computer speakers at the other end of the house? Big problem. We just kept adding chokes until the problem stopped. Now his cables look like some alien Mardi Gras necklace, but the problem went away.

Until I started fooling with tuned random wire antennas. Nothing helps with that level of foolishness. I don't do it often.

Hello Redneckcellphone: (R+16)

The Local Area or local field RF Energy is getting into the speaker wires and being detected and being heard in the speakers. Its not harmonics, as harmonics are significantly below the level of the main frequency in RF Energy. However having a Low Pass Filter on the output of the amp is a good call. I use to listen to the locals on the second and third harmonic frequency on my scanner to see who’s got that little bit of extra output with the tell tail signal.

Good advice to install Toroid’s or Snap on ferrite chokes. Radios Shack has them.

I have a FM Broadcast Band Antenna mounted just a few feet below my 5/8 Wavelength Ground Plane Antenna, and at first I could hear myself in the FM Receiver. Adding in Snap on type ferrite chokes reduced the interference on the FM Antenna Coax, significantly reduced the interference but there was still a little of me audio coming in the FM Receiver, and I just can’t have my tunes messed with, even by me.

So I installed Ferrite Chokes in the speaker wires, and shortened them from a rolled up 40 feet to just a few feet as needed. Now even when I yodel, I don’t hear me thru the speakers, that is a little disappointing but I rather hear Hank yodel than me….

West Mountain sells a set of computer speakers that are RF Energy proof, there at:

West Mountain Radio - COMspkr Computer Speaker System

Good luck

Most computer speakers made today are so cheap electronically, that they will pick up just about any close by transmitter. I have got into many of them and added by pass capacitors to the circuitry to limit the issues.

Problem with this is you have to have some understanding of the audio circuits involved and just where to add the by pass capacitors. Plus you need the skill to use a soldering iron and not destroy the circuit board in the process.

Older speakers work well also.

I have used the toroid choke coils and added capacitors to some speakers also.

Recently, I began digging around my garage and found some older Optimus Radio Shack speakers from the '80's. These were well made and some had metal enclosures.

I also found an amplified computer speaker system, it is a beige/white color and my computer is black. But these older speakers work great and have no problem being next to radio gear.

Several of my friends have found great deals at thrift stores for these older speakers, and use them for their radio shacks and projects.

Sounds like you got it solved... and I appreciate the comments from LoyalServant... You're so right in these "shops" detuning the oscillators and actually adjusting the RF out frequency while looking at the antenna connector and convincing customers that that huge swing on the meter makes it a "big radio"...
