Confused about close call while at work scanning

So im very confused about close call. Can someone explain to me what it is and if I shall keep it off. I just turned it off . And im wondering if thats a good idea . I did some research what it is hut honestly I dont really understand . Only thing I might be thinking thats useful for is the police helicopters 🚁
But not sure if thats what that is . Can someone please help a brother out . Thank you for your help .

What it does is make your scanner into an 'untuned' wide band receiver, listening to everything from DC to daylight - BUT it has very low sensitivity so will only pick up stations that are very close to you, probably not more than 500 yards. While you have 'close call' turned on, your usual scanner operation is turned off. If the 'close call' picks up a station, it should store the frequency on a memory list.

In reality, you get from 25 mhz to 512 mhz. Then from 758 mhz to 1300mhz.
