Connect Tone is related to Motorola Trunked Systems.

Are we sure the OP is asking about CTCSS/DCS or Connect Tones for a trunked radios system ???

The only time a Pro-106 will ask if you want to store a tone is if you are monitoring conventional frequencies. That option does not display while in trunking mode.

Are you adding CTCSS or DCS tones?
If so Yes, it not then No.

It will vary, as an example:

483.5125 if you leave it with no tone, you will hear Braintree Fire and Groveland Police.

If you only want Groveland Police, you would need to enter the 146.2 Hz Tone

PS Connect Tone is for Trunking
CTCSS/PL or DCS/DPL is for Conventional

Thanks why I asked first.....

It is not necessary. The reason for the PL tones is to separate agencies using the same conventional frequency that are in close geographical proximity to each other. By not storing the tone, it will allow you to hear ANYONE on that frequency without any bias within your listening range. If you store the PL tone, then the only one you will hear on the frequency is the one using that same tone.

If you do store the tone and you have any other agencies using that conventional frequency within your listening range, you will NOT be able to hear them any longer unless you also store their PL tones.

The choice is yours.

Sometimes the connect tone is used to differentiate repeater sites on the same system. California Fish & Game only has two main freq.s but just about every repeater has it's own connect tone and the units in the field switch tones depending on how well their traffic is going in/out over the various repeaters. SOOOOOOOO, the decision to store the tone should be made with knowledge of what you want to listen to and how those local systems operate.

Now that you have an idea of what a connect tone is, you may be better off going to your local board and asking people that scan the same things what would be better.

What you are talking about is CTCSS not Connect Tone.

Connect Tone is used in Trunking Radio Systems.

CTCSS is used for Conventional [Repeater, Simplex] Systems.
CTCSS aka PL and DCS aka DPL are two different types used
for Conventional systems.

It's unlikely that a PRO-106's LCD displays "Connect tone". Is it displaying "CT"?

If you're on a conventional, not-trunked frequency (i.e a CONV object or in one of the search modes), "CT" is an abbreviation for "CTCSS".

If you're on a control channel for a Motorola trunked system (i.e. via the "Analyz" option within a TSYS object, or in Tune mode where the display indicates "M36"), "CT" is an acronym for "Connect Tone". It should alternate with other system information (decode percentage, system ID, etc.).
