Connecting 396T to the computer?

I tried to program this beast by hand for a few days now to no avail and want to try the software.

I have a newer computer which apparently does not come with a RS232 port. It has USB ports instead.

The cable the 396T comes with cannot plug anywhere in the computer. The scanner has what looks like a USB port but it's not. I even tried using the digicam USB cable but that didn't work either.

Which cable do I need to connect to the computer?

Yep, that will work or you can go to bestbuy or any other joint like that and get a USB to serial converter. That may be more handy then you can use it for other things as well. I use a Dynex brand Model# DX-UBDB9

It works on everything, even XTS3000's.

Both work great, but if you just have one scanner the USB to RS232 DB9 Cable Adapter is the better route.

Either one will work, but the Serial To USB adapter gives you more flexibility. I have one adapter that I use with three different gadgets - GPS, PRO95, and BCD396. That way I only have to have one USB DRIVER loaded in the computer.

On the other hand, if you are [size=+1]100% sure[/size] that you will never need to connect another RS-232 device, then the USB-1 would be better. :twisted:
