Hello,

I found a fairly old stub antenna (called a rubber ducky ?).
It's about 6" long.
Marked: Uniden Bearcat.

Would like to try it out, but am stumped re the connector built into
the end.

It's a Male (pin in the middle), quite small diameter, and threaded.

Would it be a SMA ?

I always thought SMA had a bit bigger diameter, but I can be wrong.

Anyone have any idea what the connector is, so I can purchase
something to mate it with an HP-1

Thanks,
Bob

It is for one of the old bearcat crystal handheld scanners and the early bearcat 100 16 channel handheld before being replaced with the bnc connection. I am not aware of any adapter of that type.

Hi,

Thanks for help.

Guess that really "dates me". !
Crystal scanners; wow !

Bob

Can you post a picture?
As mule1075 said, it could be really old and made to screw into Electra's first programmable handheld, the Bearcat 100. That was neither SMA or BNC or anything else, it was probably proprietary to Uniden in those days.

If it has the word Uniden on it though as you indicated, it should be something newer as the Bearcat 100 was made before Uniden bought Electra and started selling "Bearcat" branded scanners. Uniden marketed a Bearcat 100XLT model as the replacement for the Electra Bearcat 100 but I think Unidens model used a standard BNC connector by then. I could be wrong on that though. I know Regency also used some screw in antennas on some old models before going with BNC.

edit: the HP1 does use an SMA type antenna connector. I don't know which variation of SMA it is though, you have male and female and then RP (reverse polarity) for both the male and female versions. I wish they would just standardize SMA and everyone use just one version.

The Home Patrol uses an SMA female on the radio, and an SMA male on the antenna. In fact, all Uniden scanners that use SMA connectors use SMA female on the radio and SMA male on the antenna.

Reverse polarity connectors are different altogether, NO SCANNER MADE uses a reverse polarity connector of any type.

Hi folks,

Thanks for help.

Am all set now (I think).
I ordered a Uniden rubber ducky for the HP-1 from Amazon.

Bob

That's correct to my knowledge as well.
The only radio's I can think of that use RP SMA jacks are probably all of the CCRs that I've ever seen.

So from your reply, SMA is just like most other, they determine the gender by the center pin.
