Hi all..I have two scanners online a PRO2053 and a BCT15. With the BCT15 I have all the talkgroup IDs programed into that I want to stream, and just the control channel frequencies for pinellas county, Florida. A listener sent me an email and said..

"Comments: I am in Pinellas County Fl. I can pick up St. Petersburg Police and maybe some P.C.S.O. However it seems to be only their talk-around channels. I have not picked up any dispatched calls as of yet. Nor have I picked up any county EMS or Fire. Am I doing something wrong or is that the only ones offered at this site. Thanks"..

I was wondering if I have to put in all the frequencies in order to get all the calls? I have all the IDs programed in and all are turned on and I can't figure out what is going on..Has anyone heard of this or had this problem? Thanks and cheers..Keithmj

Below are the frequencies I use for all Motorola 800 II systems in Pinellas County. I throw them all in, not sure if it helps. There must be other control channels and frequencies that are used by these talk groups. I was hoping that if I program the 396 to "control channel only" it would pick up additional frequencies of the talk group so I can store them for when I'm not on "control channel only." The same frequencies seem to be used by different talk groups - PD, Sheriff, Services, EMS, etc....I lumped all the frequencies together and then eliminated the repeats, and so I lumped Ridgecrest, Toy Town, Cell 3 and Cell 4 and some other frequencies that downloaded from Radio Reference, although some talk groups seem to stay on "Toy Town" frequencies and some talk groups seem to use all frequencies. There is one extra frequency in there that may be a transcription error -- haven't found where I got it from yet (868.8625).

No it actually hurts all the sites need to be in seperate systems, you only need to program the frequencies listed in red with control channel only.
You don't seem to understand how a trunked system works, read this to understand better.

Your saying if you had a multi-site motorola II system, you should put each "site" as its own "system". I monitor a 4 site MotII, and just put 4 control channels per site into one system and monitor, should I be doing this different?

Adding separate systems by CC only seems interesting and seems to work well. When set to "CC Only on" with all frequencies listed, the BCD396 focuses on the active control channel. Example, input all Ridgecrest frequencies with BCD396 set to "CC Only On" the scanner focuses on control channel 860.2375 (only active cc channel for the last few days). "CC Only on" and "CC Only off" seem to work equally well.

Interestingly, the Toytown (CC channel 860.7125) system carries a lot (can't confirm all) of the transmissions on Ridgecrest system (CC channel 860.2375) , and I can toggle between the two systems and hear the same transmission in mid sentence on different frequencies with different control channels. Why the duplication?

At least with these two systems, when all frequencies are added with "CC only on", the scanner focuses on the Ridgecrest control channel rather than the Toytown control channel.

How do we know if there aren't more control channels out there? There are a ton of TGIDs that need updating, might be some new control channels, too.

Thanks for the advice.

No, unless each site broadcasts independently and are not simulcasts. The scanner will work with the first CC encountered.

A multi site system is still basically a single system.

What Keith and Kayleesdad (mainly him) have done is just put all TRS channels from multiple systems (not MULTI SITE) in a single bank, system (396) or whatever. I've been to Pinellas County FL for business and wound up with something like four TRS systems in my 396. As I recall, the county is Motorla but Clearwater (where I was staying) is EDACS.

As was stated (and you've done it correctly), for CC operation, you just need to enter the known control channels (red or blue). If you notice limited or no reception, then check the CC's you have loaded. If there is no CC, add new frequencies from the system list until you find it.

and clearwater is EDACS standard/wide rather than "narrow" which is the way it downloaded for me from RR -- although that may have been an isolated incident. Same with EDACS for Hillsborough East and Hillsborough West. Hillsborough is a larger county due east of Pinellas and accross the bay.

much to learn about these systems and sites, etc..

Dividing by sites and using CC only, it appears that the sheriff's TGIDs and the Fire/Med do not use the toytown site. the toytown site appears to be a simulcast the main police dispatch channels, some digital voice pd channels and a lot of public works channels, and for awhile it seemed one police info channel appeared exclusively on toytown as did a USF PD A channel and a digital voice TGID. inputting all toytown frequencies and turning off "CC only" brought out some strange TGIDs in the 50000's and 60000's that disappeared very quickly, although 63813 sounded just like 19712 (1B North Dispatch).
