• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hi folks,

I’m starting this thread to see if there are any resources available about using COTS headsets with APX radios. I was able to get my headset (Plantronics Voyager Legend UC) to pair with my radio (APX4000). It works surprisingly well, except the button on the back of the headset does not activate the radio’s PTT like I’d like/expect. Is it possible to make that happen? Pushing the PTT on the radio does allow me to speak through the headset’s mic. There is also another button on the headset, but this does not activate the PTT either, and is generally used for interacting with the headset itself rather than the paired device (when paired with the APX radio pressing it mutes the mic).

Any thoughts on this? Or any links to Motorola docs?

If it isn’t possible to activate the PTT from the headset... any ideas why that would be? Other than to sell Motorola PTT devices?

Thanks.

I've got mixed results from Zagg/iFrogz Impulse Wireless earbuds. They do connect to the APX, but it appears the pairing is never really complete. I can hear audio from the radio, but the status LED on the buds continues to flash rapidly rather than every 5 seconds as it would after successful pairing, and I get no confirmation voice prompt. Shutting off the APX Bluetooth results in a "Connection Failed" audio prompt in the buds. While this 'works' in that they do deliver audio, I'm left wondering if the buds will deplete their charge faster than usual. (No mic on these, so they are receive audio only).

For me the headset pairs normally and as expected with the exception that I was really thinking / hoping I'd be able to use one of the buttons on the headset as a PTT.

I’m surprised there isn’t more information on this subject. I’d think it would be a fairly popular option, especially for amateurs using pro gear, or other non-public safety purposes.
