• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have found a local entity using Motorola cp150's . I am trying to search for the frequency that they are using. Are these radios pre-set with frequencies? I'm not even sure if they are using uhf or vhf at this point. I see that the cp150 is capable of using the 146-174 range as well as 438-470 range. Can I narrow the search fields somehow to ease the search process as in removing the Amateur ranges and others? Thanks for any help..........................

They're programmable to any frequency in those splits. Can you see the antenna? Shorter will be UHF and longer, relatively speaking, will be VHF. Or, if you can get your hands on one, the model number will definitely tell you what band they're for.

I will try to get a better look at the radios. One radio had a short antenna and another was longer. I will need to do some more investigating.

UHF can be short and stubby or long and skinny. If it is VHF then it will be long and thick. If you know the agency that is using them then you can search for them in the ULS system on the FCCs website.

I would lean towards UHF then ,I did see short and stubby and long and skinny. Now to just get lucky with them using them while I am searching on the scanner. Another thing I noticed was a ComPros sticker on the radio but I haven't found a FCC listing that I can say is the correct info for this location........

True, I'd forgotten about the wideband UHF antennas. Is ComPros a dealer? If so, that probably won't yield much info regarding a license. The MSS I work at puts stickers on most radios we sell, much like a car dealer puts their name on vehicles.
