• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a new CP200XLS and cannot get the Edit PL function to work right. At first I thought it wasn't enabled in the programming because when I go into the Edit PL menu, there are no tones displayed to the right of RX and TX, unlike what is shown in the manual. When I press P2 to change the tone they are still not displayed. I can press the up/down buttons and when P2 is pressed it says "Saved".

Well I did this with a couple of channels just to make sure it wasn't working and noticed my Talkaround symbols were disappearing. Sure enough I keyed it up on those channels while monitoring the freqs on a scanner and the tones had changed.

So it looks like it does work but I can't tell what tones I am selecting. This is really a problem since I have no idea what I changed my RX tones to. So does anyone know if this is a programming error or am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

When you go to CPS, create a channel with a pl tone set then also allow the talk around. When using the radio enter the menu using whichever button you programmed, select edit pl and you will be able to select the pl/dpl as you wish, you can only select whichever is programmed with cps so if you programmed a pl you can select a pl and if a dpl is programmed a dpl can be edited. Then since i could care less who i hear i have my rx side set to csq and when you enable talkaround it will tx rx without a code. Hope this makes sense.

Unfortunately I don't have the CPS, but it should have been programmed like you said.

What happens is when I enter the Edit PL menu on the radio, instead of seeing this:
"RX 156.7"
"TX 156.7"
(like is shown in the manual)

I see this:
"RX "
"T\/\E "

When I select either one, the menu advances to where I change the tones; but it still only shows "RX " or "T\/\E ". When I press the up/down keys nothing changes.

Here is the weird part: If I started out with my default 156.7 PL on Tx, and press the down key three times then press P2, it will say "Saved", and even though it looks like nothing has changed; I am now transmitting 141.3 PL.

Any idea why it isn't showing me what tones I am selecting?

Some more info: The software version on my radio is 03'06'01

After reading your post i thought it may be the display but the software which programmed the radio seems very off. Moto radios once programmed with the newest software cannot legally be programmed with an older software, there are some exceptions but are rare (there is a downgrade utility found on the resource center of moto online). If that is the date of the software or the release, both predate the XLS, the current software version is R05.13. Try upgrading to the newest version and see what that does (please make sure you know what you are doing when upgrading and firmware or software on the radio, call moto tech support if you have any questions). As always use legal software and OEM parts for upgrading the radios.

Hope this helps

Hmm, that is odd. This is a brand new unit (shipped from Moto mid December) and it was programmed by the shop I bought it from, a fairly well known dealer in AZ.

Just to be sure we are talking about the same thing here, I got that number from the radio here: Menu --> Utility --> Software.

OK, i thought you were referring to the CPS version, yes that should be correct. I am on a older codeplug 03.04.02. hmm now i am confused, I am guessing that you bought from actioncomm (which btw they are the best dealer i have used). It could be a programming issue or a hardware issue but i doubt its hardware. I would contact the dealer and explain the issue they may have another idea or a solution.

Most likely no, I have the limited keypad but a call to a moto dealer will get you the answer.
