Their has been numerous problems over the pass couple of months with the CPD Zones. It appears it all began around the time the fiber optic cable was cut knocking out 4 different Zones. My home Zone (6) , was on city-wide 5 for the last few days, and just came back on the primary frequency yesterday. They were off the primary Zone for a week prior to this. Currently, Zone 3 is on city-wide 4. If you're a regular monitor of CPD Zones, and it seems suspiciously quiet, check city-wides 4,5 or 6.

***This has nothing to do with the narrow banding switch over, before anyone asks...lol***

On the techno side of things, both police and fire are having many issues with our on-board computers in our vehicles. We've all switched to Panasonic SF 30's on the fire side, and all seemed to be working ok. I don't know if they did some upgrade at the OEMC and now thay're not communicating properly. Those that listen regularly, have been hearing mention of this on both the poilce and fire side the last few days.

What radio service pipe (IWIN, Motorola Private DataTac) is plugged into the on-board computers, and what's the nature of the communications problems?

I remember reading an article that Chicago was moving to IWIN. If it's IWIN, other than Chicago PD/FD CAD/RMS related traffic, isn't the mobile data inquiry/response interface to LEADS, NCIC, NLETS, SOS, etc. done in Springfield??

Type of issues is dispatches not always appearing on the MDC's/PDT's. No news on the digital. Nothing too fancy, just your normal mobile data information.

Zone 12 Issues

The Mobile Relay is coming in weaker than the OEMC. Sounds like a stand-by receiver is kicking in when the cars come in. I wonder if this is the beginning of issues yet again.

I think there was a "open key" on 460.40 yesterday, if thats the zone thats on 460.25 its nice and loud and clear...Some dispatchers need a lesson in putting the "mike" near the MOUTH!!....Here in Joliet its some cops that need the same lesson.....

Yes it was Ron. One of the receive sites is "hanging up" on the Zone. As of this morning, that is Zone 6 still on City-Wide 6.

Back on the primary frequency as of yesterday. Good to monitor all the pickpocket, shoplifing, foot posts this time of year.

Next...!

Zone 3 is next to go narrowband...Dec. 28th. My suggestion is set all of your CPD Zones & City-Wides to NFM. The audio drops a bit after narrowbanding..Zone 1 & 11 so far. When a narrowbanding occurs, they switch the entire Zone to City-Wide 4 for most of the day (hint-hint #1), then they announce to switch your radios to "A" Bank followed by the Zone they're assigned (hint-hint #2) . I've heard this twice now. "A" Bank is the narrowband Bank on the XTS 5000's.

One good thing about the Uniden 396XT/996XT they have a "volume increase=1-2-3, GRE/RS have one volume increase and it also increases the back round noise.....

We have a bunch of CPD Zones and Citywides in a CDM1250 at work and I set them all to Narrow a couple weeks ago and to tell the truth the ones that we know have been changed (Zone 1 and Zone 11 for sure) no one here has noticed any real differences. We had Zone 11 set to Narrow a week before they switched and there wasn't any discernible difference AFAICT.

Not a major difference in the scanners, but it could be noticable in places where you have numerous scanners going...like my house..lol!

More problems..

Didn't want to start a new thread, so revived this one. Over the past couple of weeks, CPD Zone's 1,2,3,11 have been having intermittent mobile relay issues. These are narrowband Zones too. They have been switching to City-wide's 5 or 6 when the problems occur. Also, CFD EMS-North has been operating on their Stand-By 2 trnasmitter for the past couple of days. Just went back to the Primary transmitter shortly after 4 PM today. If you've been monitoring, and sounds a little weaker than normal as of late, this is the reason.
