• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

So im looking into buying a dell latitude cpx or a panasonic MK4 Toughbook to mount in my vehicle for mapping and documentation. The CPX has Windows 2000 and the MK4 has Windows XP Pro.

Im trying to see if either of these computers will work with CPS software and XTS software.

If not could someone maybe provide me a link to a laptop on ebay that would work?

Thanks alot.

Yes, the Toughbook will work very well. Thats what i use for all of my programming. Not sure about if the Dell has one, but the Serial Port on the Toughbook is very helpful because then you never have to worry about messing around with USB drivers.

Toughbook all the way!

I second the Panasonic Toughbook. I use it with XP PRO SP3 without any issues. My CDM 1550s, Ht1250s, and HT1550XLS radios are all pogrammed through the toughbook using CPS without a single glitch. I like the choice of either USB or serial port in a laptop.

I have serveral Dell 600 series and some Gateway 400series computers that I use for programming and they all have a serial port and USB and have XP on them.

If the Dell you are looking at is like a 500, or 600 series, it will have a serial port as well as several USB ports and will work just great.

I would also stay with XP as there have been problems with some software using Win 2000 and Win7.

I have several gateways for sale.

Programming computer

I use a Dell Latitude C640 and a Compaq N410c with good results. Both run XP. I have also had fairly good results running Windows 7 32 bit on the Dell.
