During a high speed turn the other day my HP-1 flew out of the cradle and slammed into the passenger door. A small crack in the screen has become a large crack and the screen is totally non-responsive.

Does anyone have any idea what Uniden would charge to fix or should I attempt a fix myself. I suppose I could just use the device with computer control since it is scanning normally and all sounds fine.

Hi jm32935:

Do as upman advises and send it to them. Uniden's repair service is great! I sent my 396T for repair and they even fixed some issues that I didn't know existed.

For that low price you shouldn't even attempt to fix it yourself!

Wow!

At that price I will be shipping today!!

I thought for sure a cracked screen would cost more than $49.50.

Way to go Uniden. You convinced me to buy more of your products in the future.

Thanks again!!!

I'm thinking that Uniden's cost for a replacement screen is much less than $49.50 but it would probably cost you that much or more to buy one. But why would you want to take on that job with the costs and aggravation that come with it.

Remember too, that there may be more to the repair than just the screen. If the technician at Uniden goes inside the scanner and finds something else that needs attention, he/she will correct it as well. As UPMan said in his post, "all parts and labor necessary to bring your product back to the original specifications".

I say let them handle it and save yourself the blood, sweat and tears. I did and was totally pleased with the results. I wouldn't hesitate to send an item to them for repair.

Russell ;)
